After we graduate from Penn State, how long will our blog be available for viewing? We could not remember if it was 6 months or 2 years after we left school?
I was trying to work on my site and when i went to publish it i got a message that said
"Error making path '/pass/users/k/a/kam5223/www/blogs/portfolio': mkdir /pass/users/k/a/kam5223/www/blogs: Permission denied"
How can I fix that?
I've read the "rooster" directions but I want to add an image to the background of the top banner where the blog title is located. I'm using the professional template and I just cannot seem to locate the right spot/code. Help!
As of right now, the widgets that I place in the "main sidebar" show up on all of my pages. I like the main sidebar on the home page, but do not want any widgets on my other pages.
How do I get rid of the widgets from my other pages (or have different widgets on each page)?

When I browse to the bottom of my blog page, over this months entries, I get to the word "Archive". When I click that link, I get a list of blog entries. Is it possible that, instead of a list that there's a way to set up the archive so I can continue to browse? Maybe add a "Previous month" link?
I looked at the Archive Template, went to Archive Mapping under Template Options, and I felt like I was in the right place but I just didn't speak the language.
Is it possible to pull off a continuous browse back through entries?
edit: Just an FYI note on why this would help. I remember things visually. I remember layouts, photos and illustrations. Being able to quickly scan through my posts visually helps me locate things I need. Tags and search don't do it.

I have my blog set to allow anonymous comments and require email address for anonymous comments, but when I have a "trusted commenter" post a comment, it still requires my approval. Under the comments settings, I have Immediately Approve comments from: "Trusted commenters only" set. However, I still seem to need to approve those comments, even when they are my own.
How can I allow the world to comment, forcing them to put their email, but then allowing some to become trusted?

Okay, so my students and I are having problems with this:
Whenever you upload a file in the editor, it inserts a link where the link text is the name of the file. Similarly, if you go to Manage->Assets, the "Asset Name" field is set to the filename. However, if you change the "Asset Name" to something more palatable, like from "resume1.pdf" to "My Resume", inserting an asset back in the Page or Entry editor still inserts the name of the file as the link text (instead of the name of the Asset). This isn't a problem for me, because I don't use the Rich Text Editor, but my students are still learning HTML and can't figure out how to either edit link text or have the asset name as the link text instead of the file name.
So, my question: can you make MT display the asset name by default as the link text instead of the filename when adding an asset to a page or entry? Also, can you edit link text in the Rich Text Editor?
Hi,
I have 2 basic problems i have been struggling with.
1. I cannot do anything on the main page which is http://www.personal.psu.edu/seg233 but i can create a blog like http://www.personal.psu.edu/seg233/blogs/emre and do the editing there. I would rather like to do everything on the first website. Could you help me with this?
2. In http://www.personal.psu.edu/seg233/blogs/emre/blog/ website, all the entries that i enter are shown in the Blog section but i would like to enter the entry on FR401. In this case what should i do?
Thank you very much
Emre

Is there a plugin or service available that would give us metrics on something as micro as our individual blogs? Can our server logs help? I've checked MT documentation and can't find anything, but it just seems like it would be a normal need. I've been on blogs that have been able to provide information like number of visitors, IP addresses of subscribers, spider hits, click-through on sidebar links, referring websites.

Dynamic Social Studies
Maxim begins this chapter with a very intriguing story of fourth graders in Pennsylvania, whom successfully lobbied and obtained legislation for the Pennsylvania State insect. In reading this story I knew that Maxim was trying to show how important, how diverse, and how “alive” the area of social studies is. This story showed how with hard work and a goal, social studies is affected and can be affected by society every day. Children are also the main point of this story and are the main focus for “us” as teachers. Social Studies is an ideal topic for Children’s curiosity according to Maxim. I agree with him because social studies covers many areas and tells a story of “our” past. Maxim also hits on a key point when he talks about teachers professional skills mixed with personal qualities make for a good experience in social studies, because if the teacher is enthusiastic and enjoys the subject it is much easier for the children to also gain an interest in it (plus the kids can tell if your faking it).
Maxim goes on to talk about what social studies is and memories of the reader’s social studies experiences, but when he begins to explain the connection between social science and social studies is when I really started thinking about how “real” that is today. He starts off by talking about how up until 1916 the areas of study in elementary schools were, reading, writing, and arithmetic. In studying education today, I began to think of how that seems to be the trend coming back. This is because of government legislation, which ironically is a key part of social studies. Yes, of course, I am talking about the NCLB Act. In thinking about our government and schooling presently, I began to think what is next? With a new administration coming in, how much of social studies and history will change and what part will we, as elements of the system, play in this history-making era.
That line of thinking took me into Maxim’s next topics of why social studies is important, what part do we play in this system, and what is our goal as teachers of this subject area? Social studies is important because it is who and what we are as a society. It is our active duty and responsibility to discuss and participate in the social essence of our country. Maxim states, “The Preservation of our democracy depends upon a system of education that prepares its young people to accept responsibility in society, but today’s social commentators say we are failing that test” (Maxim 16,17), this stood out to me because it is very powerful in the sense of responsibility in preserving democracy is ours and how we are not taking this seriously. I think this is very true and it is the one flaw in the system. People do not take into consideration the people “speaking” for us in offices as much as they use to. Many people seem to vote the party and leave it at that. This is dividing our nation and more importantly this is irresponsible of our civic duty. In saying that I believe my goals for instruction at the elementary age would be by showing the students how they can make a difference and it is their duty to do so.
