Trusted Commenters in MT4

cpl2's picture

Is there any way to designate certain commenters on the blog as trusted and thus to have them approved automatically (while also notifying me that a comment has been made). I would like too add myself to the list of trusted commenters too so I don't have to approve my own comments.

Thanks,
Chris

As far as I can tell, 1) yes, 2) no

Hi, Chris.

I've designated several commenters on the MT4 blog I created in Jan. as "trusted." To do so, I selected Manage, Comments. I checked the box for the person's comment, then from the More actions pull-down, I selected Trust Commenters. As far as I have been able to determine, this does nothing at all.

My settings are:
Comment Settings
* Accept Comments
If enabled, comments will be accepted.
Commenting Policy
Immediately approve comments from
No one
* Trusted commenters only
Any authenticated commenters
Anyone

Like you, I still need to manually approve each comment from trusted commenters, including me. In addition, I queried our blog team on whether there were a way to see who-all I've designated as trusted. The answer was something like, hmm, MT should look into the user interface more. If you find the solution, please share it!

Possibly Penn State Authenticated

If it's a course blog and your students have all created blogs, you can try the Penn State authenticated comments. Approval should be automatic.

As for the rest, I can conform Mary's message (except for the "Hmmm" part). It's likely that the interface for user management will improve in 4.1. Our procedure for determining implementation timelines remain as they have in the past.

Try allowing "Any authenticated commenters"

To echo what other's have said here:

Try setting "Immediately approve comments from" to "Any authenticated commenters" in Preferences -> Blog Settings -> Comment.

You should still get an email when a new comment is posted, it will keep spam from being approved, and you will not have to approve your own (or any PSU user's) comments.

Another option for being notified of new comments to your blog is to use the blog comment's feed. You should see a link to that in your sidebar. It is an rss feed that contains your blog's comments.
